Spring Self-Care

It’s your time to bloom babe! Spring is the season to lighten up, start fresh, and come out of the winter manifesting the desires of your most vibrant self! What lifts you in the Summer, Fall, and Winter may be completely different than what your soul needs in the Spring season. Winter can be a time for hibernation in many senses, making Spring your opportunity to step out bravely and boldly, refreshed from the nurturing and growth you did in the previous season. 

In Ayurveda, it is Kapha season which is characterized by “wet, oily, moist, heavy” qualities. Foods like bananas, cheeses, avocados, and hearty soups that our bodies need in the winter can cause allergy issues this season, that’s another reason to shift habits with nature’s cycles. This season, focus on roughage foods like cabbage, broccoli, greens, and legumes to clean your systems as well as foods that create heat in the body like garlic, onions, and ginger. As the days get longer, you want to shift your wake time and bedtime to sort of come out of the past season’s hibernation.

SIGNS YOU NEED TO DO A GENTLE SPRING CLEANSE

A healthy body has a robust self-cleaning system  and can defend itself against most environmental insults and the effects of occasional indulgence. Your liver does a lot of the dirty work filtering out toxins from the foods you eat and your environment , and also purifying your blood. When your body is overloaded with toxins, your liver cannot keep up with processing them fast enough - which can lead to chronic inflammation, unbalanced blood sugar levels, slowed metabolism, and auto-immune disorders.
